My life… My journey…

All the new Moms out there… Welcome to this world. All the experienced mom would have asked you lot of questions which you have no clue.

Before pregnancy, people would have asked you when is the big plan for baby. After pregnancy, who what how, eat this that… By now, you must be enjoying all the attentions you are getting.

All the moms out there never will warn you about what’s going to happen… Some must be rejoicing the fact that your perfect figure and happy outings are going get over after which they don’t have to be jealous about your Facebook updates…

But trust me. The journey starts when the baby is in your arms. No clue what to do with the baby. Let me tell you few stuffs that will comfort you.

As soon as you deliver, you can/ cannot feed your baby, as you may not start lactating yet. You will start soon but keep trying. It took three days for me to start giving milk but I had problem of over lactating.

My baby would sleep but i couldnt as milk would get clot. Had to pour warm water to take the excess milk out. It took few days to get adjusted to the need of the baby. Yes, our body will produce milk according to the need of the baby.

My friend was lactating less and she had to opt for formula milk. It’s a natural process and we cannot help or do magic. We just have to make sure that baby has enough food and sleep. You may feel guilty first but trust me, that is not a problem at all. Make sure you eat healthy food that helps you lactate more.

The baby eats, sleeps, pees and poops. That’s baby’s job. if any one of them gets disturbed then starts the inconsolable cries and sleepless night. Also follow your baby’s schedule strictly and stick to it. Visitors, friends, relatives will be visiting the baby and they are your well wishers. But do not change the baby’s schedule for them. They will surely understand your situation.

The baby will cry when he/she has discomfort due to gas, blocked nose, constipation etc. There are medicines for such discomforts. Do not get the baby addicted to nasal drops. Opt for natural remedies which should be very mild for the baby.

Follow doctor’s advice in food and vaccinations. Pretty much you are good mom if you do all this. I got married as soon as finished my degree and had baby. I did not have any clue about babies or even how to hold them.

My baby twice got sprain kind of thing on her neck due to bad handling 🙁. She was crying continuously and thankfully the lady who bathed her was there and she knew some old techniques. She did some this and that and my baby became normal.

I learnt that as well as few other techniques and also how to bathe a baby traditionally. After a month or so I learnt how my baby reacted for different needs. I was nothing in the beginning and became everything for my baby in two months.

I am just an example not a sample. You cannot take my story literally and expect the same thing to happen in your life. Each and every human being is different and reacts differently. Only a mom can tell what her baby needs.

The toughest part in this is the PEOPLE and their advices. They have your and the baby’s best interest in their heart. But to much of anything will only make you confused. As said before, only you know what your baby needs. It is better you hear all the advices and make a note of it but follow only those which you think is the best.

Some of the stuffs I did is listed below.

1. From day one, my baby was given bath by a professional bather.

2. Gave her traditional medicine called vasambu in Tamil mixed in mother’s milk.

3. Neopeptine for gas relief

4. I ate garlic, avarakkai, beans, yam, rice for lactation.

5. I used butter for sore nipples.

6. My baby got cold very often. Hence I heated coconut oil and added little camphor to it and used it as massage oil. Also when baby got cold, would apply that in the center of her Head. Also advisable is to roast the raw rice and soak it in coconut oil and apply that in the center of the head and also in feet.

7. Always expect the baby to get uncomfortable when ever a new food is introduced. My baby would cry the whole evening if i gave her something new in the morning. Some will get rash or lose motion or constipation.

There are lot more to tell but I found everything as I faced it. So not to worry. You will handle the situation like a pro before you know it. Remember the boat you are sailing now is someone else’s, who successfully completed their journey.

You panic for everything and scared to do anything and know nothing about it…. Welcome Mom…

This blog is an example. Your journey is not going to be the same. But live every single moment as you will not get it back once gone.

As for the body changes that will happen after delivery… Trust me.. that will be your least thing to bother about. You will get back to shape after an year. Some are lucky that they don’t undergo much changes or weight gain.

Your baby is going to be fine as it got YOU. Take care of yourself. All the best.
